Description

1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk

The Golden Hawk was Studebaker's flagship model in 1956. This vehicle features Packard’s 275-horsepower, 352 cubic-inch (5.8L) naturally aspirated V8 engine with just under 55,000 miles on the odometer. It is one of 4,071 Golden Hawks produced in 1956. The 1956 Golden Hawk was the first Studebaker automobile to feature tail fins, which were made of fiberglass. At the time, it was one of the fastest cars on the road in 1956.

The vehicle has undergone an eight-month mechanical system repair, refurbishment, and maintenance upgrades, completed in January 2026. Highlights include a two-tone Golden and White paint scheme with the roof matching the lower body color, creating a stylish and refined appearance. It features Regal Deluxe trim with chrome bumpers and accents, along with an upgraded interior.

Powered by the standard Packard Ultramatic engine, the car’s V8 breathes through a Carter WCFB four-barrel carburetor beneath an oil bath air cleaner. The odometer reads just under 55,000 miles.

The recent mechanical upgrades included rewiring turn signals and front running lights, adding a license plate tag light, reworking headlamp wiring, replacing the fuel sending unit, tail light bulbs, and turn signal bulbs. The distributor, starter coil, starter solenoid, and timing were adjusted. The carburetor was recalibrated, and spark plugs replaced. The emergency parking brake return spring bracket was repaired due to brake lock-up issues. Front and rear brake shoes were replaced, along with the fuel pump gasket, wheel bearings, and gear box adjustments. Transmission seals and oil pan were replaced, and all fluids—oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and coolant—were flushed and replaced with filters.

Additional work included replacing upper and lower control arm bushings, all four shocks, repairing or replacing defective gauges and sending units, dash lights, and trim. The radiator fan was upgraded to a new six-blade model, and door closer adjustments were made.

Remaining known imperfections include paint chips on the hood and a few minor scratches on the body. The vehicle requires a replacement muffler.

The car drives and presents well, with the distinctive two-tone Golden and White paint scheme and a matching gold interior, truly embodying the 'Golden Hawk' name. It is now road-ready and considered suitable as a daily driver.
