Description

The Trabant Universal 1.1 is the station wagon version of the last-generation Trabant, developed during the final phase of the GDR era. The model was introduced in 1990 as the successor to the two-stroke Trabant, featuring a four-stroke engine based on Volkswagen technology. This made it a late and technically distinct chapter in the brand’s history, which had been primarily associated with simple, lightweight mobility within East Germany.

After German reunification, production continued for only a short time. During this final phase, various versions and batches were produced that found their way to other markets or distribution channels. The Trabant Universal 1.1 444 Edition belongs to that later series and was originally intended for Turkey. Due to the importer’s bankruptcy, this batch never reached the Turkish market. Years later, these Trabants were brought back to Germany and sold through channels including supermarket chains. The 444 series refers to this origin, making the Trabant Universal 1.1 444 Edition a late and limited-circulation model.

This vehicle was built in 1991 and first registered in 1996. It is one of the last 444 original Trabants, specifically number 380. The car is in its original condition, has a mileage of 18,804 kilometers, and comes from a collector. It includes an original certificate, a bronze medal, the owner’s manual, and two sets of keys. The original 1996 bill of sale has been preserved, confirming the documented sales history.

The car is registered in the Netherlands under license plate 65-SF-VN and was imported from Germany in 2005. The Dutch APK is valid until December 12, 2026. It has been carefully maintained throughout its life.

The Trabant Universal 1.1 444 Edition is a rare, low-mileage example from the 444 series with documented provenance and original paperwork. It was built in 1991, first registered in 1996, and has been registered in the Netherlands since 2005. Interested buyers are encouraged to attend the viewing day for a better impression.

This car is being auctioned online by Classic Car Auctions during the “Classics Sports Cars Summer Auction.” The auction opens on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. and closes on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, starting at 8:00 p.m. The vehicle is available for viewing on August 14 and August 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Anthony Fokkerweg 7, 1422 AE Uithoorn, The Netherlands.
