Description

motodrome are pleased to offer this superbly provenanced, 1972 Triumph Stag MK1 3.0 manual/overdrive , finished in White with black trim, fully equipped with both colour coded hardtop and a black mohair soft top

fitted with power steering, electric windows, and the correct wheel trims for a Mark 1..

Also fitted with period radio, auxiliary front driving lights, and electronic ignition.

Showing just 66000 miles on the odometer, this example has recently emerged, following a 180 hour recommissioning by a qualified engineer, from an 18 year slumber in dry storage

We’re told that, prior to going into storage as a result of the original owner’s ill health, that the car won at least one concours prize.
Following the original owner’s death, the car passed to his son in 2021, who commissioned the refurbishment in mid 2024.

V5 therefore shows just two owners

The recommissioning work included, but wasn’t limited to

Plugs removed and engine bores oiled
Old fuel drained, fuel lines and fliter replaced, fuel pump rebuilt
Carbs stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with new seals and diaphragms
Electronic ignition inspected, cleaned, repaired and tested
New tyres on restored rims
Air filter and cam covers fitted with new gaskets
New 4 core radiator, thermostat, temperature sender, rebuilt water pump, and engine back flushed
Rebuilt starter motor
All oils, filters and fluids changed
New shock absorbers
Braking system fully overhauled and new fluid fitted
New shock absorbers
Rear bumper rechromed

And much more. We have a big folder of bills, plus handwritten records of the recommissioning.

On arrival with us, it was fairly obvious that at least one of the timing chains was a rattling on start up from cold. Therefore we’ve just replaced both chains (using high quality German replacements), sprockets, tensioners and guides with new, We further took the opportunity to replace both carburettor needle valves, cam cover gaskets, all drive belts, the viscous coupling, the fuel filter and the plug leads, followed by fresh oil and filter as is best practice after the chains are changed.

On test it performed absolutely superbly, and certainly put a smile on my face – it’s truly a joy to drive with a wonderful V8 soundtrack, and is now ready for it’s third owner in over 50 years.

Although it’s MOT and RFL exempt, it omes with MOT to September 2025 and our usual 6 month warranty

I think you’ll struggle to find a more original Mark 1 Stag that can be used as intended, without significant further expenditure

On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 videos: a walkaround appraisal, and driving impressions, which form part of the description.
