Triumph TR6 Overdrive Roadster 1970

Professionally body-off restored. Never welded, original sheet metal. Engine and transmission rebuilt.

The car is finished in off-white paint (applied in 2019) with a black vinyl leather interior. It is fitted with modern seats with headrests and seatbelts; original seats are included. Many technical upgrades have been made, including stainless steel exhaust and 123 ignition. An additional matching trunk lid without rack is included. Extensive documentation is available, including manuals, history, and maintenance invoices.

History and Documentation
This Triumph TR6 was originally delivered new to the United States by British Leyland Motors San Francisco on January 20, 1970. In 2010, it was exported from California to the Netherlands, where it was extensively and professionally restored. The car likely never left California, as no welding work was needed, indicating it is very solid and rust-free with excellent fit and finish. The car comes with a folder of documentation, including manuals, maintenance invoices, registration papers, and the original American manual. The Heritage Trust certificate confirms the car’s original status and delivery history.

In 2022, the TR6 was appraised at €34,000 and verified as Quality Class 1, in excellent professionally restored condition. It is equipped with Overdrive, a type of 5th gear. Enthusiasts may recognize this example from the cover photo of Triumph Tribune magazine (2023).

Exterior
The TR6 features beautiful lines in a lovely off-white color. The paintwork, chrome, rubber trim, and lighting are in very good, fresh condition. The black vinyl soft top is in good condition and can be stored under a small or large tonneau cover. Lucas fog lights are mounted at the front. Plastic protective covers are fitted in the fenders to prevent dirt buildup. A luggage rack is mounted at the rear, and the original trunk lid without the rack is included.

The bodywork is original, damage-free, and fits precisely. It rides on 15-inch Minilite alloy wheels finished in black, with tires that still have sufficient tread.

Interior
The interior is in good condition and features several upgrades, including comfortable Mazda MX5 seats with headrests. The original faux-leather seats are included and are also in good condition with no tears. The dashboard is finished with cherry wood trim, and the door panels are covered in black vinyl.

The calibrated Smiths gauges function properly. The interior includes factory-installed and optional heating, a laminated windshield, and a steering wheel lock. Later additions include 3-point seat belts, USB and 12V charging ports, and a main power switch. An additional steering wheel lock (anti-theft) is also included.

The trunk is tidy, with space for the spare tire under the double floor. The original jack is present.

Technical
The Triumph has undergone a thorough technical overhaul. The original engine, transmission with J-type overdrive, and differential have been rebuilt. The cylinder head has been lead-free treated, and the compression ratio has been increased to European standards by resurfacing the head.

A 123 ignition system has been installed in the standard housing. The car features a high-torque starter motor, Sachs clutch, aluminum radiator, modern washable air filter, and a stainless steel sport exhaust, producing a beautiful sound from the 2498 cc inline 6-cylinder engine.

The engine bay is clean and well-maintained, reflecting careful attention to detail. The chassis is damage-free.
