Van Diemen was founded in 1973 by Ross Ambrose and Ralph Firman Sr. in England.
The name of the company derives from the Australian island of Tasmania, which was formerly known as the Land of Van Diemen and where Ross Ambrose was born and lived, before moving to Great Britain and founding the company.
The company had an excellent reputation for high-volume production of Formula Ford chassis, which excelled in that automotive category for over 20 years and over the years became the largest manufacturer of bespoke racing cars in all. the world.
Van Diemen also built cars for Formula Ford 2000, Sports 2000 and Star Mazda.
A curiosity: the Van Diemen plant was located near the Snetterton circuit and this allowed the Stables to test the cars and make any changes promptly.
