The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia: A sporty, luxurious, hand-built car based on the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. This particular example underwent a thorough 'body-off' restoration around 2016 and is now in excellent condition. Originally registered on February 10, 1970, in the United States, specifically in Seattle, like most examples. In 1997, the car was imported to the Netherlands, and the current owner has cherished it since 2006. Extensive documentation from the 2016 restoration, including a photo reportage and numerous invoices, is available. The car is in a condition as if it just rolled off the factory floor in Osnabrück. It's beautifully finished in a striking, unique Aston Martin color, complemented by black (imitation) leather upholstery in the interior. The car features a wooden Nardi steering wheel, and the original steering wheel is also included, along with a trunk rack. An added feature is the lockable glove box. Needless to say, the car is rust-free, and both the paintwork and interior are in impeccable condition. Thanks to its meticulous technical care, it drives excellently. In summary, it's a beloved classic in exceptionally beautiful condition, ready to delight the next enthusiast. Due to its recent increase in value, it is also of interest to investors!

General information about the VW Karmann Ghia:
As early as 1948, limited edition Volkswagen Beetles were modified by coachbuilders. One of these was Karmann, who aimed to produce a sporty convertible version in larger quantities. In 1950, the Italian coachbuilder 'Ghia' was commissioned to design it. The design was finalized in 1953, and Karmann was excited about the modern design. Heinrich Nordhoff, Volkswagen's general manager at the time, was particularly focused on affordability and had doubts about the model's pricing. Nevertheless, the further developed model was eventually presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in 1955, generating great interest. It enhanced Volkswagen's image, even though the car received criticism for its limited engine power. Over the years, engine power was gradually increased, and in 1969, VW addressed this criticism by summarizing the following characteristics of the VW Karmann Ghia as compared to sports cars:

Sports cars have race-like, hand-finished bodywork. So does the Karmann Ghia.
Sports cars have bucket seats and a four-speed gearbox operated by a lever. So does the Karmann Ghia.
Sports cars have extra stiff suspension for better handling. So does the Karmann Ghia.
Sports cars need to be serviced by specialists. The Karmann Ghia doesn't require it.
Sports cars are expensive. The Karmann Ghia is not.
Interestingly, the peak production year was not achieved until 1969, mainly due to increased demand from the United States, where the model capitalized on the popularity of the VW Beetle and van (T-type). The 1600cc engine with 44 hp was the most powerful version, achieving a top speed of 138 km/h. Production of the Karmann Ghia continued until 1974.
