Volvo 122S (Amazon) – 1958, Original, well-preserved and full of character
The Volvo 122S, better known as the Amazon, is one of the most iconic models in Volvo’s history. Introduced in the mid-1950s, it combined elegant design, structural safety and remarkable mechanical robustness — qualities that still define the model today.
This example dates from 1958, belongs to the early production series, and is officially registered as Amazon P1200V. While this is the internal factory designation, the car is universally known and recognised as the 122S among enthusiasts.
The car presents itself in a largely original and un-restored condition, something increasingly rare for early Amazon models.
Interior in good condition, with original upholstery showing no significant wear or tears, mechanically well maintained, running correctly and smoothly and new tyres, have a period-correct radio, including the original radio delete plate, a rare and desirable detail, with approximately 90,000 km
The paintwork shows honest signs of age: some fading, small bubbles and minor surface corrosion. For those seeking a “like-new” appearance, cosmetic work would be required. For collectors who value originality and patina, this adds to the car’s authenticity and charm.
Early Volvo Amazon models represent a relatively small portion of total production and are increasingly appreciated by collectors. This example offers an excellent balance between originality, usability and historical interest.
A solid, elegant and genuine classic, built to last, and meant to be driven.
