Motodrome offer this exceptional 1996 example of the rare, full-fat, high-performance Volvo 850R Estate, this one an automatic, finished in Bright Red with Beige half- leather/alcantara sports trim.

Not to be confused with the more numerous T5, the ‘R’ models (which are now appreciating rapidly in value) have many extra tweaks that take the performance and handling to higher levels, including 240bhp as standard, uprated suspension inc thicker anti roll bars and sports dampers, 17” Volans alloys, and a bigger front airdam.

Otherwise it has the usual high R spec: aircon (working), cruise control (working) ABS (working), half-leather trim, two tone steering wheel, switchable automatic, electric heated front seats/sunroof/windows, central locking, front and rear spoilers, and roof rails.

Unlike many that have been heavily tuned, this one is in standard spec as far as I can tell, with the exception of privacy rear windows and silicon turbo hoses.

This one spent it’s life 1996 to 2019 in Japan, where the roads aren’t salted. It was registered in the UK in 2019 and then sold to the last owner, an ex Volvo master technician, who’s used it sparingly and always kept it garaged when not in use. Both the above have contributed to making it the superb example you see here.

Odometer reading just 122000 kms (just under 77000 miles,so just about run in), and the last owner tells us, in his professional capacity, that in his tenure he’s serviced it every summer (last serviced by him August 2024 at 121450km with all fluids changed), fitted new front and rear brake pads summer 2024, and fitted a new fuel pump too. He also fully waxoyled the underside to preserve it.
