The first road-legal XX convertible in Maranello’s history, the Ferrari SF90 XX Spider is the fusion of Italian marque’s XX and Special Version programmes, creating a car that is both extreme yet homologated for the road. Derived from the SF90 Spider, the new car retains the Retractable Hard Top (RHT) and yet has been raised to impressive new heights by an additional 30 cv, specific software logics and the use of radical new aero solutions, including a fixed rear wing.
The focus with the SF90 XX Spider’s development was to produce the most high-performance Ferrari road car ever that also delivered superb fun behind the wheel, as well as fully retaining all of the functionalities of the SF90 Spider’s hybrid powertrain. It delivers the most efficient aerodynamic performance of any Ferrari road car, making it comparable only to that of the LaFerrari supercar. It delivers double the maximum downforce of the SF90 Spider, improving grip and yielding a faster lap time at Fiorano. The product of Maranello’s inestimable racing experience, this result was achieved by redesigning the cooling flow management for the thermal and electric components as well the engine compartment. Using the signature PHEV layout from the SF90 Spider, Ferrari’s engineers have further optimised the V8 internal combustion engine and integrated three electric motors to gain a further 30 cv, 1030 cv in total, setting a whole new Ferrari performance benchmark. The removal of the secondary air system also removed 3.5 kg from the engine’s weight. The car’s eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox has been developed, using logic introduced on the Daytona SP3 to enhance gear-shifting sound and the resultant driving thrills. The redesign of the SF90 XX Spider’s soundtrack also brings its racing soul to the fore, with an even fuller, richer sound celebrating the harmonics right across the V8’s rev range. Another major new addition is the ABS EVO controller, which debuted on the 296 GTB and, thanks to its integration with the ESC sensor, improves both performance and repeatability in high performance braking in the dry.
Styling-wise, the SF90 XX Spider incorporates the engineering principles that underpinned the SF90 Spider and pushes them to the XX extremes. A more radical design language highlights its thoroughbred characteristics whilst still retaining the pure lines and forms of its predecessor. The SF90 XX Spider retains the traditional flying buttress, seamlessly melding this with the arrow theme of the front. Like the roll-bars, the retractable hard top is carbon-fibre and can be opened while the car is moving in 14 seconds at a speed of up to 45 km/h. One of the most distinctive characteristics of the SF90 XX Spider’s design is its rear wing, the first to appear on a road-going since the Ferrari F50. The tail volume, which has been specifically redesigned with aero in mind, is now sleeker, giving it the long tail silhouette typical of racing cars. The air intakes for the intercoolers are now larger too, channelling the air towards the radiators more efficiently. The car’s interior has been subject to significant weight saving measures, with an emphasis on technical fabrics and carbon fibre over luxury textiles: the door panels, tunnel and mats are simpler in terms of their shape and material, whilst a new racing seat was designed to enhance the driving racing experience without compromising on comfort.
This fine 1:8 scale model of the Ferrari SF90 XX Spider is finished in Argento Nurburgring with accents of Flash Orange, and features an interior in Nero with touches of Flash Orange. It has been handcrafted and finished in our workshops with the co-operation and assistance of Ferrari regarding original finishes, materials, archive imagery and drawings. The use of supremely accurate digital scanning of the original car has allowed us to perfectly recreate every detail at scale. Furthermore, it has undergone detailed scrutiny by both engineering and design teams to ensure complete accuracy of representation.
The Ferrari SF90 XX Spider is limited to just 599 pieces.
