The automotive landscape of brand new releases in 2025 will be an interesting mixture of innovation, retro designs, performance and for some manufacturers that haven’t had the best of times recently, going back to their roots. While the electric vehicle revolution has slowed, it continues to progress and gain momentum, with traditional combustion engines and hybrid systems being far from obsolete. In fact, the new models for 2025 are increasingly versatile, offering a selection of propulsion methods alongside cutting-edge technology to meet the demands of modern drivers.
Renault 5 E-Tech
One of the most anticipated comebacks is the return of the Renault 5, reimagined as the fully electric Renault 5 E-Tech. This iconic hatchback, originally introduced in the 1970s, is making its return as a fresh retro hatch for modern folk. Renault is leveraging its rich history while embracing electric propulsion technology, which should resonate with both nostalgic enthusiasts and contemporary drivers alike.
The Renault 5 E-Tech promises a practical range of around 200 miles on a single charge and starting price of less 25,000 euros, positioning it as an urban commuter vehicle. The design itself pays homage to the original, retaining the charming, compact aesthetic that made the Renault 5 such a beloved city car. But beyond its visual appeal, this vehicle will showcase Renault’s advancements in a battery-efficient platform, regenerative braking, and intelligent energy management.
Renault 4 E-Tech
Joining the 5 E-Tech is another classic reimagining: the Renault 4, now transformed into the electric Renault 4 E-Tech. Like its smaller sibling, the Renault 4 is a beloved nameplate with a heritage dating back to the 1960s. The reworked 4 will feature a 134bhp electric motor and a four-wheel-drive setup, combining the ruggedness of the original model with the efficiency and performance expected from contemporary electric vehicles. Built on the same platform as the Renault 5, the 4 E-Tech will cater to those who seek more space and versatility without compromising the distinct character of the classic Renault 4. By adding four-wheel drive to the mix, the Renault 4 E-Tech positions itself as a capable CUV, ready for both city commuting and theoretical light off-road duties, even though buyers of this car will probably not even know it’s driven by all 4 wheels. Price should be less than 30,000 euros.
Dacia Bigster
The Dacia Bigster is another highly anticipated 2025 model, set to introduce a larger, more affordable SUV to the market. Built on the same principles of affordability and practicality that have made Dacia a favorite among budget-conscious buyers, the Bigster aims to fill the void in the rapidly expanding market for budget-friendly SUVs. Expected to come in under 30,000 euros, this mid-size SUV will be a spacious, efficient, and versatile package, boasting elevated ride height and a roomy interior. Powertrain options include conventional internal combustion engines and hybrid configurations. With a rugged yet stylish design, the Dacia Bigster stands out as an accessible and practical alternative to premium SUVs.
Fiat Grande Panda
The 2025 Fiat Grande Panda is another welcomed comeback, paying tribute to the original legendary Fiat Panda, arguably one of the greatest rugged hatchbacks of the late 20th century. The Grande Panda stands out with its bright colours, distinctive body cladding, and LED headlights that double as indicators. Available in both electric and mild hybrid versions, it offers a 99 bhp petrol engine with an electric motor or a 111bhp electric motor with a 195-mile range, competing with rivals like the Dacia Spring and MG ZS EV.
Inside, the Panda features a 10.25-inch touchscreen with AI-powered voice controls and a spacious, airy cabin with up to 361 liters of cargo space. With prices starting at around 20,000 euros for the mild hybrid, the Fiat Grande Panda offers an affordable and stylish choice in the small SUV and electric car market.
Corvette Zora
On the performance side, the 2025 Corvette Zora is generating excitement among automotive enthusiasts. This iteration of the iconic American sports car is named after Zora Arkus-Duntov, the legendary engineer often credited with making the Corvette into the performance machine it is today. The 2025 Zora ushers in a new era for the Corvette, continuing the mid-engine layout that delivers Ferrari rivalling dynamics. The Zora will feature a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, complemented by an electric motor to create a hybrid powertrain.
This beast, still somewhat of a legend in the making, is set to combine the ZR1’s astounding 1,064 horsepower twin-turbocharged flat-plane V8 with the electrically powered front axle from the E-Ray. The Zora is expected to tip the scales at just under 4,000 pounds, taking into account the E-Ray’s 300-pound weight advantage over the Z06, in addition to the ZR1’s bulkier build. This results in a remarkable power-to-weight ratio, with roughly 3.24 pounds for every horsepower. With this electrified performance, the Zora might just achieve a jaw-dropping 0-60 mph acceleration in under two seconds. True land rocket material.
The BMW Neue Klasse
BMW is also preparing for a transformative year with the debut of the Neue Klasse concept in 2025. The Neue Klasse will set the stage for BMW’s next generation of electric vehicles. The Neue Klasse will show some much needed fresh design that harks back to the 1960s and 70s. More of the not so interesting things are being used for potential success of this new generation BMW, such as emphasis on lightweight materials and focus on aerodynamic efficiency– critical aspects in developing a vehicle that’s both sustainable and high-performing. The new platform will enable a variety of powertrains, including battery electric and possibly hydrogen-powered options, allowing BMW to continue to evolve its offerings. The first Neue Klasse vehicles will be the i3 Sedan and iX3, with the lineup eventually expanding to mirror current BMW models.
The Road Ahead
As 2025 gains speed, enthusiasts can be quite pleased – there’s more than a few exciting retro cars and old model names coming back to the market, backed by the latest technology with diverse powertrains and unique designs and while a lot of car companies are trusting their future on electric power, there’s still some mad offerings, like the Corvette Zora, that shows internal combustion is still not dead.
